After weeks of casting about for great ideas, swimming against the current and nibbling on ideas, 29 Smith Mountain Lake businesses released their creations in the SML Something’s Fishy at the Lake competition.  More than 10,000 votes were cast on line.

“Gema” of Westlake Jewelry won the Retail Alliance Chairman's Award, judged by the Retail Alliance Board Chair Margie Johnson.  The anglers at Westlake Jewelry were awarded a silk flower arrangement that included gift cards from local Retail Alliance member merchants and a special trophy presented during the SML RAC Council meeting in June.

The 12 trophy bass to the right will appear in a 2010 calendar that will feature a picture of the winning fish, a picture of the storefront, a business profile and include two coupons.   All 29 participants will appear on the front of the calendar and each will also have a coupon within the calendar.  Additional coupons are available for $25 each.  Proceeds from the sale of the calendar, which will be available this fall, will go to two area charities.

Voters who won gift cards drawn from cast ballots live on Lake Radio WSLK are as follows:
Adrianne Lowry - $10 from VitaZen
David Scruggs - 2 prime time passes to Hot Shots
Faye Carter - $10 from Poofy Pets Boutique & K-9 Academy
Sandra Mazey - $10 from VitaZen
Emma Fuller - $50 from Haywood's Jewelers
