CEO Makes it Through

Please indulge me as I mix both personal and professional observations in this post.  Last month marked the one year anniversary of my appointment as President / CEO of Retail Alliance.  This past year has flown by, I sit here amazed that a year has come and gone.  I can recall how humbling it was when the board chose me to oversee the management of our organization. As a 28 year employee of Retail Alliance, I have been fortunate to have served for three distinctly different presidents. Each one in their own way imparted wisdom that I hope to use in accordance to the mission of our association.

I can’t help but thank the board and staff for the support that has been given to me during this transitional period. The staff of Retail Alliance is top notch; they have the passion, love and creativity to take this organization to a very high level.  As observed during this year’s Media Fest, Retailer of The Year Awards and last October’s Loss Prevention Conference, the quality of content has been extraordinary. Our “Business after Hours” (R2R’s), Roundtables, Quarterly Forums and Back Stage Pass have been both well attended and educational.

From a legislative stand-point, we experienced one of those rare sessions that every lobbyist dreams of.  Through the efforts of the Virginia Retail Federation, we were able to win all legislative initiatives that were tasked by our legislative committee; Amazon Tax Loophole, Civil Demand, Felony Threshold, and the Veteran ID Program.

Our brand new company, Business Solutions Inc, was launched in February and has had a stellar year so far. Business Solutions Inc. represents Equifax throughout the state of Virginia. Through the efforts of our sales force, we have amassed a team that serves the credit reporting needs of over 1400 customers.  Credit reporting sales have increased 7% year-over-year.

And finally on a personal note, I am both honored and humbled to be the 7^th CEO of this 109 year old proud organization.  I believe our members, board of directors and staff makes up a team that is second to none.
